Faculty Clinical Microbiologist

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles is recruiting a full-time faculty member to serve as the Assistant Medical Director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, a full-service clinical microbiology laboratory including virology and molecular microbiology, Bacteriology and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing, Parasitology, Mycology and AFB. The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory provides clinical services to UCLA Health, which includes Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Santa Monica UCLA Orthopaedic Hospital as well as more than 1 million clinic patients in its various ambulatory facilities.
The Department is seeking an outstanding clinical microbiologist who possesses a broad range of experience across all areas of routine microbiology testing including antibiotic susceptibility. Informatics and/or experience with successful implementation of laboratory utilization projects preferred/highly desirable.
The Assistant Medical Director will work closely with the Section Chief to provide vision, leadership, and operational oversight to ensure that the laboratory provides outstanding clinical care to patients and supports the academic research and teaching missions of the health system. Although this position is clinical in nature, there are opportunities to develop a collaborative or independent clinical translational research program with clinicians and investigators within the Department of Pathology, the Division of Infectious Disease, or other investigators and clinical scientists throughout the health system.
The successful candidate will have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. degree with Board Certification or Board eligibility for certification in the subspecialty of medical microbiology or clinical microbiology by an appropriate certifying agency. Eligibility for licensure in the state of California is required. The faculty appointment will be in the Health Sciences Clinical series and commensurate with training and experience.
